They don’t just show up… they move in.
Ants

Spiders, Ticks & Fleas
Hitch rides on pets, invade your home, and can spread disease and bacteria. They cause painful bites, nonstop itching, and infestations.
Cockroach
Can contaminate food, spread bacteria and allergens through your home—triggering odors, asthma flare-ups, and fast-growing infestations.
Flies, Gnats, & Biting Insects
Swarm kitchens and trash areas, contaminate food & surfaces, and multiply fast turning annoyances into unhygienic infestations.

What Makes Home Guard Different
How To Use Home Guard Max
Step 1 - Shake
Before each use, shake the bottle for 10–15 seconds to ensure the active ingredients are fully re-incorporated into the water.
For Indoor Use
Lightly mist problem areas like baseboards, door thresholds, window sills, corners, trashcans, and behind/under appliances—anywhere pests tend to travel or enter.
For Outdoor Use
Lightly mist outdoor problem areas like door thresholds, porch perimeters, window frames, exterior corners, patio edges, garage entry points, trash cans, and around outdoor fixtures—anywhere pests tend to travel, hide, or enter.
Storage
Store Home Guard Max upright in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight-away from heat sources and freezing temps so the formula stays stable and ready to shake-and-spray next time.
Tips & Tricks For Effective Use
Do a quick “pest map” first: look for crumbs, grease film, moisture, tiny gaps, and droppings—spray where the evidence is, not where it feels satisfying.
Spray after sundown (or early morning): that’s when a lot of pests are active, and temps are cooler so the mist can sit and dry more evenly.
Give it dry time, then seal the deal: once the area is dry, close gaps (door sweeps, weather stripping, caulk). Spray helps; removing the highway matters more.
Reduce moisture before you spray: fix drips, wipe standing water, and ventilate under-sink areas—many pests are basically tiny moisture-seeking missiles.
Use the “two-pass” method on heavy traffic spots: a light mist, let dry, then a second light mist—more even coverage than one heavy soak.

I try not to use inorganic chemicals for pest control, and I was very happy when I came across this product. This spray primarily contains peppermint oil and cedarwood oil which are both effective insect repellants. It has a strong peppermint odor and is really effective against ants and cockroaches, which are the primary pests in our area.
At $24.99 for a 16 oz bottle, this is a very expensive product though.
This is very, very strong stuff. Its fortunate that I like peppermint or it would be overwhelming. It does work very well though, as a thick layer is keeping both ants and mosquitoes at bay. Its not perfect, as it doesnt eliminate ant activity entirely, but it has reduced it drastically. Definitely a good buy!
This plant pest spray seems to be working well so far and I like that it has a peppermint smell, maybe with a bit of neem oil too. It has not harmed my plants at all, which is a big relief since I am careful about what I use on them.
The only real issue is the sprayer itself. Instead of a nice mist, it comes out in a trickle and kind of squirts, which makes it hard to cover the leaves evenly. I ended up pouring it into another spray bottle and that worked much better.
Even with that small problem, I still think it is a good deal because the product itself seems to be doing its job and keeping pests under control. For reference, I am constantly battling with fungus gnats and using sticky traps as well.
The bottle of Trail Hound Pet Supply Home Guard Peppermint Oil Spray for Bugs was sealed under its cap. The sprayer was separate and has a small filter on the bottom of the suction tube. The tube is long enough to reach the bottom of the bottle.
The spray has a very strong, yet pleasant peppermint smell. It also contains cedarwood oil, but does not smell of cedar.
The spray is intended for use on insect entryways throughout the house such as baseboards, window sills, and doorways. It's not safe for direct use on pets or houseplants. When used on fabrics, it should be tested on a hidden area first.
The instructions say to shake well before use and reapply every 2-3 days. The spray comes out heavy and leaves a lot of liquid, so I find it best to just barely open the adjustable spray nozzle. I applied some on a window sill where I had a frequent problem with sugar ants coming through and getting all over my bathroom vanity. That was 3 days ago and I haven't seen the ants come back.
No complaints with zero bugs, plus a great smell.
I prefer natural ingredients over heavy chemicals any chance I get. Not that this is 100% organic, but a little natural is better than nothing.
So far, I’m impressed with how well this works. I hit some of the areas on my patio that I’ve had problems with ants, and I have yet to see them return. I also preemptively sprayed this underneath some of the hidden areas on my patio, where other pests have put nest in the fall. I’m hoping this helps to keep them out as well.
I will warn you, the scent of this is very strong. I know it says for indoor use, but I’m not sure I would want this in my house. With that said, if you like peppermint, it does have a pleasant smell.
for the money, it’s worth giving a shot
